Hello! Thank you for visiting my blog. I’m Joni, a self professed foodie adventurer. I regularly travel for my day job around the country. I love trying anything new as well as finding the “best I’ve ever had”. I hope to inspire you to try new things as I take you along my Good Nom Adventures.

Cafe J's - Lubbock, TX

For a birthday celebration I wanted to have a girl’s night out at the Enrique Iglesias & Pitbull concert. We wanted to go somewhere close by so we could make it to the concert in plenty of time. Café J’s is somewhat of a local institution. It’s in a building that used to be the Central Lubbock hospital. As recently as 2014 a run was made to “Save the Godbold” from potential plans to be demolished for a high rise hotel.

Café J’s is a French style restaurant that serves an ever changing menu filled with interesting dishes and flavors. They have a very good brunch as well and can get busy during lunch time. This visit I started with the vegetable soup. It was nice to have on a cold night and had large pieces of squash. The squash had a crunchy texture even though it was in a soup. It was little spicy for my taste and it got spicier the more I ate. I would have eaten a lot of it if I could stand the heat.

I ordered the lobster mac and cheese for my main dish. It was the most delicious lobster mac and cheese that I’ve ever had. It was perfectly seasoned and did not require any salt or pepper from me. It had Virginia ham, bacon bits and Chipotle bread crumbs and the lobster was present with every bite. The saltiness from the ham and bacon balanced out the richness of the lobster and the cheese. I have heard that you shouldn’t mix seafood with cheese. However, you should never be dissuaded from trying any seafood mac and cheese by this old adage.

I'm so glad I got to celebrate and have a night out on the town!
